Steve Meehan

Steve has been in the financial industry for over 30 years.  Towards the beginning of his career, he co-founded and was the Chief Executive Officer of Investment Planning Counsel Inc. (IPC), which was sold to IGM Financial, a member of the Power Financial group of companies, in 2004.  After its purchase, Steve carried on as CEO and continued to guide the growth of the company.

During Steve’s tenure, IPC grew from two small offices with approximately 30 Advisors to a fully integrated wealth management organization. Towards the end of 2010, he left IPC and decided to pursue his interests in venture capital and philanthropy.  At the time of Steve’s departure, they had 18 billion in assets under administration and 3 billion in assets under management.

In October of 2011, Steve joined Bob Sewell at Bellwether Investment Management Inc. to help establish a more holistic approach to how Bellwether helps affluent investors achieve their financial goals.  From that point on, Bellwether became known for its comprehensive tax, estate, insurance, and business planning services, in addition to the investment expertise of its Investment Committee.

In recent years, Steve has also been active in the venture capital world.  His experience in raising capital spans a wide range within the capital markets, which includes private equity, venture capital, public markets, strategic partnerships, and both on- and off-balance sheet debt financing.  By combining everything he learned during IPC’s growth with his experience in raising capital, his goal is to help young, North American companies grow their business to the success they aspire to have.

Steve believes integrity and ethics are essential components of business and private life. A key element in his vision is to make a difference in the lives of others.  That vision involves a two-pronged approach to helping those who are less fortunate and inspiring others to do the same. Steve has participated in the Canadian Iron Man to raise funds and awareness for the MS Society of Canada and ran the Honolulu Marathon in support of The Canadian Diabetes Association and The Make-A-Wish Foundation. He led a group of climbers up Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for The Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he served as President of the Toronto and Central Ontario Chapter. Steve is also an active board member and supporter of the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation. No matter what he’s doing or which initiative he’s participating in, Steve’s goal is to raise funds for causes that create positive change and make a difference in people’s lives. He hopes that, by taking on his own personal challenges, he will inspire others to do the same and motivate them to make their own positive changes by getting involved in the causes they feel passionate about.
