MODERN…..FAMILY CONCEPTION: FERTILITY LAW AND REPRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY IN CANADA
“Susy and Tommy sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G: first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Billy in the baby carriage”.
1968 is calling, and it wants its lyric back.
Building a family now is a completely different concept than all those decades ago. The progress in medical reproductive technology, coupled with the ever-developing legal recognition of varying family formations, has allowed thousands of people: single, coupled, gay and straight, to create families they otherwise could not in the relatively recent past.
This presentation will provide an overview of the legalities focussing on third party assisted reproductive technology: surrogacy and egg/sperm donation in Canada: how it developed, the current status and important factors/tips to consider when embarking on surrogacy and gamete (ova/sperm) donation.
