Gil Lamothe

Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager, Leon Frazer & Associates

Gil Lamothe draws from over 25 years of financial expertise to manage Canadian Dividend portfolios for high-net-worth families, individuals and corporations.

Having begun his career in Mineral Exploration Technology, Gil took up reading about stock analysis to better understand the mining industry. This piqued his curiosity about the investment world, creating a turning point in his vocation. Applying his keen interest in detail and process to equity investing, Gil refined his bottom-up portfolio management approach and sharp focus on risk management through various roles.

His deep knowledge of the investment industry has been honed through positions such as Account Manager, Consultant in the use of Financial Models’ portfolio management systems, Senior Portfolio Systems Administrator, Senior Investment Analyst, Senior Portfolio Manager and his current position, Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager, at Leon Frazer & Associates.

Gil’s impressive achievements include: outperforming the S&P TSX60 benchmark index in 9 of the 16 years from 2003 to 2018 inclusive, with total outperformance on a gross basis over that period, of 106.9 percentage points; the design, construction and management of iA’s Dividend Growth Fund, growing assets from $2 million to $1,486 million; and restructuring and managing iA’s Ecoflex Dividend Fund, growing assets from $100 million in 2002 to over $900 million in 2018.

What drives him? Gil views his clients’ financial success as more than just an accumulation of assets. In his view, their wealth represents a lifetime of effort and accomplishments. He considers it a great privilege to be entrusted with the task of securing this.

When Gil isn’t building portfolios, he turns to a different kind of construction. Gil has developed trade skills in woodworking and metalworking. He has also attended the University of New Hampshire Violin Craftsmanship Institute for bow making.
