Tanya, a Professor of Personal Finance and seasoned business owner, is a Certified Financial
Planner® (CFP®) with over 20 years of professional experience in financial planning. Tanya
holds a Ph.D., in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University, and is actively
engaged in both primary and secondary research, focusing on gender diversity and the well
being of Canadians. Her research contributions are well-recognized, with multiple publications
in academic journals, conference presentations and private sector speaking engagements.
In addition to her academic and research endeavours, Tanya plays a pivotal role supporting
projects with FP Canada, serving on the FP Assumption Guidelines Committee, the Educator’s
Advisory Panel, and as a Technical Knowledge Writer. She is also a member of the Financial
Planning Research Journal’s Editorial Board and contributes to the Canadian Centre for
Women’s Empowerment as a Finance Taskforce Member and is a board member with the
Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning (CFFP). Finally, she leverages her expertise as a
peer reviewer for various academic journals.
Tanya’s commitment to fostering financial well-being and empowering Canadians is
unwavering. As a dedicated educator at Conestoga Institute of Technology and Advanced
Learning (ITAL), and adjunct professor at York University, she ensures that the next generation
of financial planning professionals receives the highest quality education and professional
practices skills development, preparing them to excel in the field.
Personally, Tanya shares a home with her amazingly supportive husband in Kitchener, Ontario,
whom she shares three beautiful children. In her free time, Tanya enjoys running, cycling,
hiking, snowshoeing with her lovable dog – Archie, reading and spending time with family and
friends at their cottage in Prince Edward Island.
